The plaza Catalunya is the heart of Barcelona, representing the meeting point between the old and the modern city. This is one of the axes of the Barcelona life and from here start important streets like Las Ramblas, Passeig de Gracia or the Ronda Sant Pere. This plaza disposes of an enormous central space with garden and trees areas allowing it to host shows and fairs during the whole year.

Moreover, Plaza Catalunya is a strategic point for transports, as you can take the bus for the airport, touristic bus to visit the city, in addition to the metro or city buses. Shops also surround the plaza; if you want to enjoy shopping, here you will find El Triangle that is a group of shops all under one roof as the FNAC or Sephora among others; and above all El Corte Inglés, one of the biggest shopping centers of Barcelona, And lucky for you, your You- Stylish apartment is right next door!

Plaza Catalunya

I am sure that you are familiar with the name. The Ramblas are a network of small streets full of stores, bars, dance clubs, restaurants and cafes. Along the main Rambla you will find flower and pet shop booths as well as street performers. This main Rambla is also special for being the main artery connecting important Barcelona spots. On this street, you will find La Boqueria, the market of fresh products typical of Barcelona, existing since 1217. Going down the street, you will see the Liceu Theatre, considered as one of the most prestigious theatre of the world and a major cultural place of the city. You can also discover the Plaza Reial down the street, with its typical architecture, before to finishing in Barcelona Port. Here you will find plenty of touristic shops that are full of Barcelona souvenirs. You’ll find that if you go off the main Rambla, there are more stores that are less touristic. Further, you can take time and walking around the street. With a bit of patience and bravery try and get lost in the Ramblas you will definitely find something memorable to take home.

Sagrada Familia is not the only important spot of Barcelona with religious meaning, Cathedral of Barcelona has a typical architecture that you have to see. Constructed during centuries XIII to XV on the remainings of anterior basilics, the building is a famous example of Gothic Catalan style and is dedicated to Santa Eulalia, the saint protector of the city.

Just behind the cathedral, you will find Plaça Sant Jaume with the Palace of the Catalan Government and the Town Hall of Barcelona. Gothic quarter is full of archeological ruins like the Pont del Bisbe or the Torres Romanes just next to the Cathedral.

One of most influential personalities in Barcelona architecture is Antoní Gaudi. You may already know that he is the architect of several monuments of the city, like Casa Batllò. Constructed between 1904 and 1906, you will find it at the 43 Passeig de Garcia. This building, full of imagination, is an example of the Catalan modernism, inspired by nature, with many colors, inventive forms and lights, giving constructions inspiring happiness. If you continue up the street, you will be able to admire the Casa Milà. This other work of Gaudi has a different style.

Casa Batllo

This street is famous for its exclusive names. Gucci, Dolce&Gabana, Jimmy Choo and Burberry are just few of the many brand names that are situated on this exclusive street. Luckily for us working class people, they also have places like H&M, Mango and Zara and Nesspresso (where you can have a free espresso, if you wait in line!). Passeig de Gracia may not be the most affordable street in Barcelona, but it is well worth walking along both in the daylight and at night. There are also some great tapas places here and of course, lots of sangria!

Passeig de gracia Barcelona

All these places are the closest to your flat that we find interesting to visit, but also don’t forget to go and visit Sagrada Familia,Park Güell, Camp Nou or Arc de Triunf, that are also important places of Barcelona.
