Start at the Sagrada Família, Gaudí's great masterpiece, then head to Passeig de Gràcia, where two modernist gems await: Casa Batlló and Casa Milà (La Pedrera).

Wander into the Gothic Quarter and look for Plaça de Sant Just, one of those small squares almost no one finds by chance. Head down to Gràcia and sit down for lunch at La Pubilla, on Plaça de la Llibertat: market-driven Catalan cooking and, on weekdays, one of the best set lunch menus in Barcelona.

Afternoon

Let the neighbourhood guide you: stroll through Plaça del Sol and Plaça de la Vila de Gràcia, step into the independent shops that have resisted the chains, and soak up the village-within-a-city atmosphere.

Evening

It's vermouth time in Gràcia: Bar Canigó, on Carrer de Verdi, has been serving vermouth and homemade tapas since 1922 in a spot that's kept all its old-school charm. Afterwards, dinner at any of the neighbourhood's terraces won't disappoint.

Day 3: Mediterranean Barcelona and neighbourhood life

Morning

Start the day with a walk along Bogatell beach, quieter and more local than Barceloneta, ideal for a coffee by the sea before the sun gets strong.

Midday

Walk along Rambla del Poblenou and stop at Mercat de Poblenou to try local produce; if you're after something more casual, Poblenou itself is full of good spots for a quick lunch.

Afternoon

Poblenou was once Barcelona's industrial neighbourhood and today it's one of the most creative: design spaces, converted studios and an atmosphere that blends beach and city like nowhere else.

Evening

For a special closing dinner, Els Pescadors, on Plaça de Prim, is a classic for fish and rice dishes with over a century of history, perfect if you want to treat yourself on the last night. Very close by, at Port Olímpic, Kresala is another of our trusted picks: wild-caught fish and charcoal-grilled seafood with the sea as a backdrop (and, booking through our concierge, a glass of cava included). If you'd rather keep it simple, a sunset by the sea with a casual dinner closes the weekend just as well.
