Sustainable mobility in Barcelona: our Concierge team's guide
Move like a local, care for Barcelona. As part of our commitment to responsible tourism (the same commitment behind our renewed Biosphere certification), our Concierge team has put together a selection of practical ways to discover the city more responsibly: walking, cycling, public transport and electric mobility.
We have selected options for guests who value comfort, flexibility and a lower-impact way to get around during their stay. Need help choosing? Our Concierge team can advise you based on your apartment location, schedule, luggage and plans for the day.
How would you like to get around?
Walking. A great choice for Eixample, El Born, the Gothic Quarter and Gràcia. Zero direct emissions and perfect for discovering the city at your own pace.
Bicycle and e-bike. Ideal for the seafront, Ciutadella and areas with bike lanes. Flexible, quiet and convenient for urban sightseeing.
Metro and bus. One of the easiest ways to cross Barcelona. Recommended for Sagrada Família, Park Güell, Montjuïc and longer journeys.
Electric scooter. More range and speed around the city, with zero direct emissions while in use.
Eco taxi. The most convenient option for airport trips, luggage, families or door-to-door journeys.
YouStylish tip: combine walking with public transport, and choose electric mobility when you need greater range.
Bicycle and public transport
Barcelona Rent a Bike offers bicycle and e-bike rental designed for visitors. The provider highlights sustainable urban mobility and reducing the carbon footprint of tourism (city bikes, e-bikes, online booking). Recommended for couples, active families and guests who want to explore several neighbourhoods in one day.
TMB · Metro and bus. Barcelona's public transport network makes it easy to travel efficiently across the city. TMB publishes decarbonisation goals and plans for the progressive electrification of its fleet (metro, bus, extensive network). Recommended for all guests, especially for medium- and long-distance journeys.
Note: Bicing is a sustainable option, but it is primarily designed for residents and regular users. For short stays, a tourist bike rental is usually more practical.
Electric mobility
ACCIONA Mobility · electric scooters. A shared electric scooter service available in Barcelona. Its scooters are electric, and the company states that they use energy from 100% renewable sources (100% electric, app, 2 helmets). Ideal for adults with a valid driving licence who want to move quickly around the city.
JetScoot · electric kick scooter. In-person electric kick-scooter rental for visitors, with hourly options. Useful for short journeys when current local regulations are followed (hourly rental, helmet, online booking). Important: confirm with the provider that the vehicle meets current DGT and Barcelona City Council requirements.
When riding a kick scooter or electric moped, remember:
- Helmet required. Wear it whenever you ride.
- One rider only. Passengers are not allowed.
- No riding on pavements. Use authorised roads and bike lanes.
- Follow speed and lighting rules. Rules may change; always check the current regulations.
Eco taxi and transfers
Taxi Ecològic · SMOU. A service with a fleet made up of 100% electric and hybrid vehicles. Taxis can be requested through SMOU and, subject to availability, journeys can be scheduled in advance (electric + hybrid, 24/7, SMOU app). Ideal for airport trips, luggage, families and guests who prioritise comfort.
Bontaxi Barcelona. Barcelona transfer service with a 100% electric fleet and quick booking. A door-to-door alternative for guests who prefer a private service (100% electric, private transfers, 24/7). Ideal for airport journeys, business travellers and private transfers.
