Even though many people think of Barcelona as a beach city, you must know the Catalan capital offers so much more than you can imagine during the holidays. There are amazing light decorations all over the city, including towering trees at Sant Jaume square and Portal de l’Angel and beautiful light decorations nearly everywhere you go, although if you are a Christmas lights freak you should definitely check the ones in La Rambla.
We also have many Christmas markets you cannot miss; these are just our top 3:
Fira de Santa Llúcia
La Fira de Santa Llucia is known as Barcelona’s main Christmas fair. It’s set under the Gothic Cathedral! Usually, you’ll find most of the stands sell festive decorations or handmade crafts.
The market is already open, and it finishes on the 23rd of December. Opening hours 10:30 to 20:30.
Fira de Nadal de la Sagrada Familia
This traditional Christmas market sets right in front of Gaudi’s masterpiece Basilica de la Sagrada Familia.
It has around 120 stalls, and sometimes it even has the special appearance from Papá Noel to collect letters from children! Runs until the 24th December and open daily from 10.00 to 22.00.
Food Artisans Market
Right in Plaça Santa Maria del Pi in the Gothic quarter. This mini market pops up with just around 20 stalls, all from artisans selling their own personal treats. From turrón and Catalan honey to chocolate, wine, and even cheeses.
