Sant Jordi in Barcelona transforms the city into a unique experience where books, roses, and atmosphere turn April 23rd into the most authentic and special plan of the spring.
February begins and immediately we think of Carnival!
Carnival is a time that is lived in a very particular way and with great joy in Catalonia, since the festivities were prohibited during Franco's term. So, since the end of his dictatorship in 1975 people have been compensating all those years without carnival.
The Barcelona Carnival in the 21st century is above all a participatory event, making it a spontaneous exercise in individual and collective freedom, involving many people in the city. The special costumes, the typical disguises and wizards make this carnival so worth seeing. Children love the carnival in Barcelona!
The main event is the arrival of the Carnival King, which will be celebrated with a colorful parade and costumed figures. Among these, its seven ambassadors—Horta, Sant Andreu, Sarrià, Gràcia, Sants, Les Corts, and Sant Mart—stand out as a representation of the city's ancient neighborhoods.
We recommend the carnival parades in the Ribera/Born area of Barcelona old city. Check out some of the touristic apartments we got nearby.
Apart from this, you can also go to Carnival in Sitges which is approximately 15 kilometres away. In the LGTB stronghold the atmosphere is very shrill and eccentric, and the parade is unique.
In Sitges, the Carnival has been celebrated for over more than 100 years. To reach Sitges you can simply take the train by Renfe. Trains depart to Sitges from the many stations: Sants, Paseo de Gracia, France Station. The trip takes about 40 minutes.
